Highlife musician Boye Best and gospel singer Goke Bajowa have settled their copyright dispute with a hug.
Bajowa had accused Boye of using his song ‘Iwo Ko Lodami’ without permission for over five years. He also claimed the song was used in promos for Boye’s album launch and performed at events, making it look like Boye owned it.
Boye denied the claim. He said the promo video was done by a lounge manager without his permission. He added that he has never recorded the song in a studio or put it on any album, and he always credits Bajowa when performing it.
At Boye’s album launch in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, the two men hugged when Bajowa arrived. On stage, Bajowa called Boye a “good person” and said he now believes what others had told him about Boye.
He said they would work on a remix of the song and formalise the copyright arrangement.
“This is my brother. Boye is a good person. I was told by many people that he is good, but I didn’t want to believe it. I think I will have to agree now with what I have seen in the last four days. God bless you. We will do a collaboration that people can stream and tidy up the paperwork,” he said.
The singers then performed the song together, thrilling the crowd.
