Bovi Ugboma, the Nigerian comedian, has revealed that he celebrates divorce when it liberates people from unhappy marriages.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Bovi said that divorce can sometimes be a source of relief for one or both partners.
“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, neither will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said.
“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop.”
Bovi, 46 is married to Kris Asimonye. The couple tied the knot in 2009 and have three children — David, Elena and Chuchu.
In 2025, the couple celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on social media, sharing family photos to mark the occasion.
The stand-up comedian had previously weighed in on the roles of husbands and wives in families.
He acknowledged that culturally, men are expected to provide for their families, but also stressed the importance of empowering women to pursue their ambitions and become financially independent.
The comedian said if a woman’s passion drives her to provide, her contributions should be recognised and respected.
