Rod Wave, the US rapper, was arrested on Wednesday for alleged possession of ammunition or a weapon in Manatee county, Florida

In a press conference, the St. Petersburg police department disclosed that the rapper was apprehended due to suspicions he had been involved in a gang-related shooting in Florida that left four bystanders injured.

The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday night outside of Sonic Sports Bar in St. Petersburg.

Wave was booked into Manatee county jail on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin, Wave’s lawyers, however, took to Instagram to deny police’s statements that the rapper owned ammunition.

“Rod was arrested and detained with absolutely no evidence of wrongdoing,” they wrote on Instagram.

“The police claimed he was a felon in possession of ammunition. Not only was he not in possession of ammunition, a basic check of public records would have easily demonstrated to the police that he was not a convicted felon.

“The prosecutor and the judge immediately agreed that the evidence did not support the charge and set him free the same day.”

In 2022, the rapper was arrested for unrelated charges of domestic battery by strangulation after he had allegedly strangled his former girlfriend.

Born Rodarius Marcell Green, Wave gained fame with his 2019 single ‘Heart on Ice,’ which first went viral on TikTok and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Ghetto Gospel’, his debut album, in 2019 peaked at number ten on the US Billboard 200.

Green is known for his strong voice and incorporation of hip-hop and R&B.
