Toyin Abraham, the Nigerian filmmaker and actress, has shared details of the financial difficulties she experienced during the early years of her career.
In a recent video, the 43-year-old movie producer disclosed that despite spending roughly 25 years in the industry, she only started making “real money” about eight years ago.
“I just started making money. I have been in the industry for about 25 years, since 2001. I started making money, I don’t think it is up to eight years. Then, I was making it, but it was peanuts, just what to eat,” Abraham said.
“Ijust started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive.”
This is not the first time Abraham has spoken about her financial journey. She made a similar revelation in 2020.
The actress has since become one of Nollywood’s most successful filmmakers. In January, she recorded a major milestone with her 2025 film ‘Oversabi Aunty’ which grossed over N1 billion at the box office.
The movie became the first Nollywood directorial debut to surpass the N1 billion mark and ranked as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
