Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader, has congratulated Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the poll as harbinger of a brighter future for the state.
Bamidele, who chaired the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election campaign council in Ekiti, said the governor’s renewed mandate would guarantee continuity in governance and accelerate development across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his directorate of media and public affairs, the senate leader said the victory “is a signpost for a better, brighter and greater Ekiti”.
Adenike Oladiji, vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and returning officer for the election, announced the final result at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.
Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to win the election.
Wole Oluyede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came second with 40,543 votes.
Dare Bejide, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), polled 12,872 votes.
Bamidele said the outcome of the election reflected the confidence Ekiti residents repose in Oyebanji’s leadership and governance record.
“The outcome of the election perfectly reflects the confidence of the people in Oyebanji’s leadership, commitment to public governance, and dedication to the welfare and prosperity of Ekiti people at large,” he said.
He added that the governor’s style of governance had fostered peace, unity and stability in the state.
According to him, Oyebanji has transformed Ekiti’s political environment from one characterised by division and hostility to one driven by cooperation and collaboration.
