NDLEA intensifying the heat on drug cartels in Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested eight(8) suspected bandits in Ala Forest, Akure North Local Government Area in ondo state.

The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi named those arrested as: 

Austin Dickson 47years old “who is the gang leader”,Sunday Adekunle 31years old,Kayode Oluwaseun 29years old,Kolawole Kazeem 33years old,Oladimeji Makinde 37years old, Emeka Charles 46years old,Ojo Oluwadare 40years old and Lanre Oluwajana 44years old .

25 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 296kgs,4 motorcycles, 6 cartridges, 6 explosive devices and assorted charms used in terrorising farmers in the forest were recovered from them.

The suspected bandits were nabbed on Friday,2nd September,2022.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that a 53-year-old physically challenged man, Ehiarimwiam Osaromo Emmanuel who is an indigene of orhionmwon local government area of Edo State was also arrested at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos for drug trafficking on Sunday 28th august 2022 on his way to Italy via Doha on a Qatar airways flight.

Ehiarimwiam was found with 5000 tablets of tramadol 225mg concealed in his luggage.Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect is a frequent traveller who often travels with lots of bags containing mainly body cream,drinks,food items and hair attachment.The suspect was said to have presented his usual large consignment to NDLEA operatives for search but held on to some packages, which were retrieved from him and properly searched during which the drugs were discovered. 

Babafemi said the NDLEA operatives also discovered 5.5kg of cannabis concealed in CD players in a commercial bus on Sokoto-Bodinga road on Saturday owned by Nasiru Ibrahim was arrested While in another bus, a suspected bandit, Sani Ibrahim (37), was arrested with some ammunition and cannabis sativa on Kware Road in Sokoto State.

Meanwhile,An Abuja businesswoman, Onyinye Nwoke, 38years old has been arrested following an intelligence-led raid at her residence, House 56 Aldenco Estate, Galadimawa where operatives uprooted fresh stems of cannabis plants grown at the backyard of the house. The uprooted plants weighed 18.4kgs while 800grams of cannabis seeds were also recovered from the house.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the officers and men of the Ondo, lagos, sokoto and FCT Commands for the arrests and seizures. He charged them and their compatriots across the country to intensify the heat on drug cartels in Nigeria while balancing their efforts on supply reduction with drug demand reduction activities.
