The Delta state high court has ordered the remand of Usman Nuhu, a police officer accused of fatally shooting Oghenemine Mene Ogidi, a 28-year-old singer widely known as OG Millan, in the Effurun area of the state.
The case gained public attention in April following the spread of a viral video on social media. The footage appeared to show the musician being restrained by an officer affiliated with the Delta state police command before being shot. In the clip, the victim is seen seated on the ground with his hands bound behind his back using a rope.
The video triggered widespread outrage, with many Nigerians calling for the prosecution of the officer involved and justice for the deceased.
Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson in Delta, confirmed that Usman had been arrested and transferred to the force headquarters in Abuja for internal disciplinary action.
Tunji Disu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), also approved the recommendation of the force disciplinary committee (FDC) to dismiss Usman from the force.
On Monday, Usman appeared in court alongside four other suspects identified as Onoloko Dauroupamo, Okoh Kelechi, Goodluck Kingsley, and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
They were arraigned under charge number DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66c/2026 and remanded.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu reported that the court ordered all five suspects to be held at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending the continuation of their trial. He described the arraignment as a major step forward for those demanding justice.
