Mayowa Lambe and her new husband
David Ayuba, the new husband of Mayowa Lambe, has finally reacted amid the ongoing controversy between her and Roby Ekpo, her estranged husband.
The controversy began last week after Mayowa married David in the United States. The news came as a surprise to many, as she was previously known to be married to Roby.
Roby and Mayowa married in November 2015, but neither had publicly confirmed their separation before the new marriage surfaced.
However, on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, Roby spoke about challenges they faced during their marriage, particularly around sex.
Reacting in a now-deleted Instagram post, David dismissed the public scrutiny, saying those close to him understand his stance and that he owes no one an explanation.
“The path to greatness leaves no room for weakness, only strength. The ones in my corner understand me. I don’t owe explanations, and that’s enough,” he wrote.
In a subsequent post, he added that: “Falsehood may travel fast, but truth arrives with consequences”.
In the wake of the controversy, Mayowa demanded N100 million in damages from Roby over alleged defamation and harassment.
In a letter from her legal representative dated April 22, Mayowa argued that there is no subsisting marital relationship between them, adding that it was “mutually terminated” on May 11, 2025.
She accused Roby of spreading “fabricated narratives” about their relationship and her character, alleging that his statements were deliberate attempts to generate sympathy and gain public attention at her expense.
In a response via his legal representatives, Roby described Mayowa’s demand as “excessive, unfounded, and premature”.
He rejected the defamation allegations, insisting his statements were based on his personal experiences and were not made with malicious intent.
He argued that the issues stem from a “complex interpersonal relationship” that cannot be reduced to a one-sided narrative, adding that he has evidence to challenge her claims.
He further said he will not comply with the demands and is prepared to defend himself in court, with plans to file counterclaims if legal action is taken.
