Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, the legal firm representing Sophia Momodu in her ongoing custody dispute with Davido over their daughter Imade, has condemned the “online harassment” directed at one of its partners.

The controversy stemmed from events following a recent court hearing.

Last week, the Afrobeats star recounted an incident involving Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, Sophia’s legal counsel, during proceedings.

Davido later announced he was withdrawing the custody case, clarifying that his intention was never to seek sole custody of Imade, but rather to establish a structured co-parenting arrangement.

The singer also addressed the public narrative surrounding the case. Although confident in his legal position, he revealed that the proceedings took an emotional toll when the opposing counsel, in his words, “brought out her last card — my deceased son. That’s a no no! Lowest blow!”

In a separate post, during which he mistakenly tagged singer Tosin Bee, Davido shared the lawyer’s name and social media handle with the public, exposing her to widespread attention online.

In response, Punuka released a strongly worded statement describing the situation as a matter that should remain within the confines of the courtroom.

The legal chamber asserted that Davido’s actions amount to “threat, intimidation, or exposure to harassment” outside the judicial setting.

Calling the attention of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) , the firm stated that it will not tolerate any form of “aberration and gross violation of our profession”.

It further emphasised that the group will resist any “attempt to intimidate counsel or undermine judicial proceedings”.

“Our attention has been drawn to all manner of inflammatory public statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our Partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement reads.

“That matter is sub judice. It will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law, and no amount of media commentary will sway that process or our approach to the case. In keeping with the highest professional conduct, no statements on the substance of the case will be issued by us.

“However, if legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled. The administration of justice depends upon fearless advocacy.

“We call upon the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers globally to rise up in one voice to condemn this aberration and gross violation of our profession.”
