Seun Kuti the Afrobeat artiste, has voiced strong criticism toward Wizkid‘s fanbase, accusing them of disrespecting the legacy of his late father Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti.

Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Show, Seun clarified that his issue is not with his colleague, but with certain members of his online followers known as Wizkid FC.

He described their behaviour — particularly their habit of tagging him in comparative or disparaging posts — as a deliberate campaign to undermine Fela’s achievements.

The Afrobeat star expressed frustration at what he sees as a persistent effort to tarnish his father’s name.

“During his (Fela) time, with everything said about my father, still they couldn’t bring this man’s glory down… I can sit here and confidently say Wizkid is the greatest artiste in the world,” he said.

“I can say Wizkid is the greatest of all time. It carries weight. Why must you (they) add more that Fela?”

Seun further contrasted the treatment of Fela’s legacy in Nigeria with the reverence shown to cultural icons elsewhere.

“Look at the Jamaicans, they are human beings too and they have created plenty huge stars after Bob Marley. You would not hear anybody say they are the new Bob Marley and you would not hear anybody compare themselves to Bob Marley,” he said.

“Go to South Africa, America, they would not do it to their legends. But when it comes to Nigeria and Fela sha, our father cannot rest.”

During a live session with his fans, the singer referenced a recent financial gain tied to his father’s legacy.

“I just collected $120,000 based on my Papa name…my Papa don die 29 years ago now. From the grave, o tun fun mi ni $120,000. How many of una father fit send una $120,000 from the grave,” he said in a mixture of pidgin English and Yoruba.

Seun, who leads his father’s former band Egypt 80 and continues the Afrobeat tradition with its signature percussion, call-and-response vocals, and political messaging, has built his career preserving and advancing Fela’s musical and activist legacy.
