‘Emilia Pérez’, the French crime musical, has secured 13 nominations at the 97th Academy Awards better known as the Oscars.
The nominees for the annual ceremony that celebrates artistic and technical merit in the film industry were announced on Thursday.
With its 13 nods, ‘Emilia Pérez’ has set new record for the most nominations for a non-English film.
It was followed closely by ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Wicked’ which were both nominated 10 times apiece.
Cynthia Erivio, the British-Nigerian actress, also got nominated in the ‘Best Actress’ category for her role in ‘Wicked’.
The 38-year-old actress’ nomination has catapulted her back in the running to be the youngest recipient to earn the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Tony, Oscar) title.
In 2016, Erivo claimed a Tony Award for her role in the Broadway play ‘The Color Purple’. She also won a Grammy for ‘Best Musical Theater Album’ for the same role. She is a recipient of the Emmy Award.
