An International Public Relations expert and media executive, Mr Ogbuefi Enubuzor has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out due deligemce and sanitise the political space in Delta.
Enubuzor in a statement on Thursday in Abuja said this has become necessary especially in Delta where some politicians are currently under investigation by the anti-graft agency.
Accordimg to him, the former governor of Delta, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa was alleged to have diverted over one trillion naira from the coffers of the state.
He noted that based on that Okowa has over 17 months now remained under investigation by the EFCC without an end in sight.
“And now, the same man at the centre of Nigeria’s most consequential state-level corruption allegation has taken his campaign to the streets.
“Okowa formally declared his intention to contest the Delta North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
” The declaration was received with celebration, motion, secondment and unanimous approval, and with the language of destiny and shared mandate.
“A man whose international passport sits inside an EFCC facility is now consulting communities across Delta North, building campaign networks and positioning himself to occupy one of the highest legislative offices in the most powerful chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly.
“He is doing all of this while the agency mandated to prosecute financial crime speaks of conducting thorough investigations and promises justice in due course.
“There is need for the EFCC to do due deligemce in delivery on their mandate, because doing such will sanitise the political space and allow for credible governance and representation,” he said.
Enubuzor described the situation as “impunity” adding people who the law Court has declared innocent should be allowed to contest and people currently under investigation by EFCC in Delta.
He further explained that Okowa defected to the APC in April 2025.
He added that the EFCC publicly denied that Okowa’s defection to APC would not affect the investigation.
“However, between April 2025 and April 2026, twelve full months, no charge has been filed. The correlation between the defection and the subsequent silence requires explanation.
“The EFCC must state, precisely and on the record, what investigative actions were taken in each of those twelve months.Silence is not neutrality in a matter of this consequence, it is complicity.
“While Okowa navigates his legal exposure, his political family maintains strategic institutional presence in the very corridors where Delta State’s public finances are decided.
“I stands with the people of Delta State. We stand with every Nigerian who believes that public funds are a sacred trust and that those who violate that trust must face justice, regardless of their political connections or party affiliations.
“We stand with every community that has borne the consequences of governance without accountability. And we say this loudly, clearly and for the permanent record.
“Let the courts, and not political arrangements, party affiliations or solidarity rallies, determine the truth.
If he is innocent, a court of law will say so and his name will be cleared.
“If he is guilty, justice demands that the people of Delta State know it.
“Either way, Nigeria cannot afford to let this moment pass without a reckoning,” Enubuzor said.
