Olamide has defended his argument on Wizkid being the greatest Afrobeats artiste of all time, second only to Fela Kuti, the late Afrobeat pioneer.

Earlier in the week, the rapper spoke at a media briefing in Toronto, Canada, ahead of his highly anticipated show on November 14.

A clip from the conference went viral on social media, capturing the moment of commendation.

The declaration came in response to a question about the prolific and successful musical partnership between the two artistes.

Rather than simply discussing their collaborations, Olamide seized the moment to laud Wizkid’s impact on the global music scene.

“You know that after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artiste ever,” he had declared.

The argument, however, drew mixed reactions from the public, especially from supporters of Wizkid’s rivals.

Some people argued that no new-age artiste was as close to Fela as a musician.

Another section of the music fans commended Olamide for his humility in naming Wizkid a greater Afrobeats artiste than him.

Reacting to an X post, Olamide maintained that his stance on Wizkid was “his opinion or perspective”.

The rap icon said he will not undermine anyone’s greatness, including Wizkid.

He said his other colleagues, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, cannot be offended by his opinion, because “they are not narrow-minded”.

“Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever,” he wrote.

“You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose—there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone.

“However, one thing to remember is that Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s opinion or perspective. That’s part of why they’ve reached where they are today.”
