Kunle Kuti, the son of Afrobeats legend Fela Kuti, has weighed in on the highly publicised rift between singer Wizkid and Seun, his brother.
The tension began a few weeks ago when Seun criticised Wizkid’s fanbase for what he perceived as disrespectful comparisons between the ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker and the Afrobeat legend.
He argued that such comparisons undermined his father’s legacy.
The conflict escalated when Wizkid rebuked and posted a series of messages laden with insults aimed at Seun. He also declared himself greater than Fela.
The exchange ignited debate across social media, sharply dividing fans and commentators.
Speaking on a recent episode of TheCable’s ‘Our Two Kobo’ podcast, Kunle said he does not support comparing Fela and Wizkid, insisting they belong to separate realms.
“I do not want anybody to compare them, it is two different things,” he said.
Kunle admitted that the issue left him “heartbroken”, noting that he holds Wizkid in high regard.
He disclosed that Wizkid is the only artiste he has ever actively sought to meet.
“That is what I am saying, I was heartbroken. What is this going on? Wizkid is the only artiste that I have kind of begged people that I want to meet in my life,” he said.
“Even Sunday Are; I have begged him that I want to meet this guy, to show you how much I love him. For the fact that he has Fela’s tattoo. We his kids do not even have his tattoo on our bodies.”
