Temilade Openiyi, the Grammy-winning singer fondly called Tems, says she will be releasing her debut album this year.

The songstress spoke about her music journey in a recent interview with Billboard.

During the interview, Tems said she is “1000 percent” certain that the project will be released in 2024.

The 28-year-old singer also said she is not worried about the outcomes that may follow the release of the project.

“It is 1,000% coming out this year… not thinking too much about outcomes,” she told Billboard.

Tems started to gain popularity in 2020, courtesy of her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’. She came through with her debut extended play (EP) ‘For Broken Ears,’ in the same year.

In 2023, the songstress won her first-ever Grammy award at the 65th edition.

She bagged the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

Last October, Tems released ‘Me & U’, a track she said she wrote while “having a conversation with God”.

She also revealed that she started making music because “I did not have friends”.

The R&B singer said music is her way of expressing her mind and connecting with people.

“I am an original. Also, I am just all about being truthful to myself. My music is for people that relate to it. My music is coming from me. My music is my outlet. I started making music because I did not have friends. I needed something to say. I had something to say and I did not have anyone to say it to so I will just sing it,” she said.

“I will write it in a song. I will record it on my phone. And I was doing that for years. Whether anybody listens to it or not, I have to release it. Whether it does well, whether it does not do well, it is none of my business. And it is for the people that can connect to it – That are going through the same thing.”
