A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, on Friday said some political appointees of President Bola Tinubu are more interested in their pockets, rather than developing the nation.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Galadima called for a change of mindset among appointees, saying they should put the country first.

“Some of his appointees are more interested in their pockets than service delivery,” Galadima said.

“Nobody is interested in developing Nigeria, only developing his pocket. You show example as a leader.”

He cited an example of how India developed, saying the South-Asian country channelled funds into medicine and information technology.

“It was remittances from Indians all over the world that they managed very well in India and developed IT, medical sciences and today, of the conglomerates in the world, 75 per cent of their heads are Indians.

“He should be told that some of his appointees are more interested in their pockets than service delivery,” Galadima said.

During the show, he expressed disappointment at the performance of Tinubu’s administration over the past one year.

Galadima said that while he expected much from Tinubu upon his assumption of office, the Nigerian president has not done better.

“I expected him to do better than this; and to hit the ground running,” he added.

The elder statesman asked the President to seek a solution to the country’s foreign exchange crisis which has seen the naira performing abysmally.
