Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has been nominated for the Face of Africa Leadership Awards ahead of the ceremony scheduled to be held in London.

Femi Salako, convener of the awards, confirmed the governor’s acceptance following a courtesy visit to him during which the nomination was formally presented to the Lagos governor.

The award ceremony is scheduled for April 2, 2026, at King’s College London, United Kingdom (UK).

Salako said the nomination recognises African leaders whose governance records demonstrate measurable impact, innovation and people-focused development.

He added that Sanwo-Olu was nominated in recognition of reforms implemented under his administration in key sectors, such as infrastructure, transportation, education, and healthcare, as well as policies aimed at positioning Lagos as a competitive global city.

Salako said the selection process for the award considers leadership style, policy outcomes and contributions to socio-economic development.

He described the governor’s acceptance as an endorsement of the award’s objective to project African leadership narratives on an international platform.

The convener added that hosting the ceremony in London is intended to connect African governance experiences with global audiences, including investors, policy experts and members of the African diaspora.

The Face of Africa Leadership Awards, according to the organisers, brings together public office holders, business leaders, academics and development stakeholders to celebrate leadership excellence and promote discussions on sustainable development across the continent.

The 2026 edition of the awards is expected to attract participants from Africa, Europe and other regions.
