Samklef, the music producer, has claimed ownership of six singles from Wizkid’s debut album ‘Superstar’.

In a recent post via X, the singer-turned-producer alleged that Wizkid’s classic 2011 album was recorded at his studio without the recording costs being paid.

He claimed that no formal contract was signed at the time of production, and he is now ready to reopen discussions with Banky W, co-founder of the Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), under which the album was released.

“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he wrote.

“I own 6 tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded.”

However, it remains unclear whether Samklef holds any legal rights to the tracks or if his assertion is based solely on the alleged unpaid studio sessions.

As of now, neither Banky W nor Wizkid has responded publicly to the allegations.

Released on June 12, 2011, ‘Superstar’ was a landmark project in Wizkid’s career and in the broader Nigerian music scene. The album featured production from an array of talented beatmakers, including Samklef, E-Kelly, Jay Sleek, Shizzi, DJ Klem, Masterkraft, Q-Beats, Banky W, and Vebee.

It also boasted guest appearances from Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W, and Skales.
