Ronke Oshodi Oke has highlighted how the shift to producing movies for YouTube has resolved long-standing marketing and royalty challenges in Nollywood.
Speaking in a recent interview on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, the veteran actress explained that filmmakers historically struggled to receive ongoing royalties from their work.
According to Ronke, 51, YouTube has fundamentally changed the industry by empowering actors and creators to control the entire production chain and, crucially, to retain all associated income.
“Before, it used be very difficult before to get royalties when you produce a movie. We have been managing and trying,” she said.
“Thank God now that you have your own YouTube. Now you are your own marketer, you are your own producer, you are your own executive producer, you do everything on your own.
“You are not owing anybody, nobody is owing you anything. That is why everyone is having their own YouTube. You do not owe nobody explanation.”
Born Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, the actress began her career with a drama group called ‘Star Parade’.
In 2000, she rose to the limelight after she was featured in a movie titled ‘Oshodi Oke’, from which she got her stage name.
In 2023, Ronke opened up about how her demanding acting career impacted some of her previous relationships prior to her marriage.
