Rita Edochie, the ace Nigerian actress, has criticised women who remain in relationships with unfaithful men for financial gain.
In a recent Instagram post, Edochie expressed concern over the growing trend of women tolerating infidelity because of their partners’ wealth and status.
She recalled a time in her generation when women would confront cheating husbands, withhold intimacy or even leave the relationship if the behaviour persisted.
“During our time, once we found out that our men cheated on us, we would kick against it with full force, yell at him, starve him sexually, give him certain attitudes he wouldn’t find comfortable,” she wrote.
She stated that women can do better today by proving that “money does not buy respect”. She also encouraged women to earn their own income to maintain independence and assert their self-worth in relationships.
“Ladies, you can do better now, it’s high time you started proving to your men that money does not buy respect,” she added.
“It is only when you depend on your man for survival that you will have no say when he begins to trample on your emotions as a woman.”
Rita, who has been a fixture in Nollywood since 1990, celebrated her 33rd wedding anniversary with Tony Edochie last year.
Tony is the younger brother of Pete Edochie, the renowned actor.
