Remilekun Oshodi, the ace Nollywood actress fondly called Remi Surutu, has claimed to be the first video vixen in Nigeria.
In an interview on Oyinmomo, the 56-year-old actress said she got into the video vixen role early in her acting career after a staff member at LTV 8 informed her about plans to produce music videos in Nigeria.
She added that she was then invited to be involved in several music videos of singers, including Ebenezer Obey and Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
“Not long after I started my acting career, I saw Mr Babs Fashina. He was at Lagos Television (LTV 8) at the time, and he told me they were planning to start shooting music videos in Nigeria,” she said.
“That’s why I always say I’m the first video vixen in Nigeria. I danced in Ebenezer Obey’s ‘Eniyan ti mo feran ju’ and Barrister’s ‘Fuji Garbage.’”
Remi, who is a native of Ondo state, kick-started her acting career in 1985.
She debuted in ‘Village Headmaster’, the 1900s classic drama series, but gained prominence for her lead role in ‘Surutu’, the hit Yoruba movie.
Her role in the movie further increased her popularity among fans and birthed the nickname ‘Remi Surutu’. She has since then featured in hundreds of Nollywood movies.
