Several individuals suspected of being child traffickers were arrested by the Benue State Police Command for operating in the Internally Displaced Persons camp at Northbank and other areas of Makurdi.

The individuals taken into custody were identified as the alleged mastermind Friday, his spouse, and two accomplices, Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh, and Atom Gideon.

Superintendent Catherine Anene, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the operation resulted in the rescue of a child who had been reported missing by their parents from the syndicate’s hideout.

Upon being interviewed, the suspects admitted to recruiting pregnant girls who gave birth to babies that were then handed over to Friday, who has been evading authorities.

The suspects were paid N150,000 for each pregnancy that was delivered.
