Onyinyechi Basil, Nigeria’s representative at 74th Miss Universe
Onyinyechi Basil of Anambra state will be representing Nigeria at the 74th Miss Universe pageant.

This year’s Miss Universe will be held on November 21 at the Impact Challenger Hall in Nonthaburi, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The event will bring together 120 contestants from countries across the world.

African countries competing for the prestigious crown include Nigeria, Angola, Botswana, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

At the end of the competition, Victoria Kjær Theilving of Denmark will crown her successor, passing on the Miss Universe title.

Onyinyechi Basil, 25, who was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, holds a degree in biochemistry.

Her passion for improving maternal healthcare was sparked by the loss of her brother, inspiring her to create Nwanyi Bu Ife, a group dedicated to expanding access to maternal care across Nigeria.

She also launched the Reach Moms Initiative, which provides women in rural communities with hospital support, childbirth education, and essential supplies.

In 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, the South-African born Nigerian model represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant.

Adetshina was crowned the first runner-up, making history as the first Nigerian woman to take the second spot.
