Davido has added his voice to the growing concern about Nigeria’s escalating insecurity following an attack on a church in Kwara and the mass abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi.
On Tuesday, a video of armed men attacking a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku community, Kwara state, went viral.
According to reports, an unconfirmed number of worshippers were abducted during the attack.
The attack occurred shortly after the abduction of 25 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga.
Taking to his social media platform X, Davido shared a heartfelt statement sympathising with the victims and their families.
He expressed his deep sorrow over the abductions in Kebbi, stating, “My heart goes out to the young girls kidnapped in Kebbi State and to their families. No family deserves this pain”.
The Grammy-nominated singer called for national solidarity, urging Nigerians to “stand together in unity and continue working towards a country where every child can grow up in safety and hope”.
He also addressed the Kwara church attack, which he described as “tragic,” offering prayers for the families of the deceased and all those affected.
Davido issued a stern warning against the normalisation of such violence, emphasizing that “These acts of violence must never become our norm”.
“My heart goes out to the young girls kidnapped in Kebbi State and to their families. No family deserves this pain. As Nigerians, we must stand together in unity and continue working towards a country where every child can grow up in safety and hope,” he wrote.
“I am also deeply saddened by the tragic attack on the church in Kwara State. I pray for the families who lost loved ones and for everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident. These acts of violence must never become our norm.
“Everything must be done to bring the Kebbi girls home safely. I urge anyone with credible information to come forward in whatever safe and responsible way they can, so it can support ongoing efforts to rescue them.
“May God watch over the girls until they return. May He comfort the grieving families in Kwara, bring peace to our nation, and put every sponsor of violence and disorder to shame.”
Davido is among a growing chorus of Nigerian celebrities voicing their outrage.
Rapper Falz publicly called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action, while actress Funke Akindele expressed shock over the viral video of the Kwara attack.
Actress Bukola Arugba revealed that three of her own relatives were among those abducted in the church attack.
