A Nigerian man named Idongesit Joseph Zion has been found guilty of attempted rape and sentenced to one year in prison by Chief Judge Ida Bagus Bamadewa Patiputra at the Denpasar District Court.
According to the Daily Mail, Idongesit Joseph Zion attempted to rape an Australian tourist named KTR in December of last year after they had spent a night out at a popular beachside nightclub in Bali.
Based on the report, the incident took place on December 2, 2022, when the two met at Finn Club on Berawa Beach Street in Canggu, Bali.
After the woman decided to leave, the man offered to order a motorcycle taxi to take her back to her hotel. However, the taxi took her to the man’s home on Teuku Umar Street where he attempted to rape her.
The Australian woman was able to escape and report the crime to the authorities.
Presiding judge Ida Bagus Bamadewa Patiputra declared the defendant legally and convincingly guilty of attempted rape and sentenced him to one year in prison. “The aggravating factors include clear harm to the victim and the violation of decency values. The victim suffered losses and felt violated as a woman,” prosecutor Ni Made Desi Pratiwi added.
