The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, is expected in Gusau on Monday ahead of the formal reception of Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress.
A statement issued by Matawalle’s media aide, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday confirmed the minister’s planned visit to the Zamfara State capital.
According to the statement, Matawalle will join Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who is billed to lead the grand reception ceremony scheduled for Tuesday at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.
Lawal recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party alongside his deputy, members of the State Executive Council and all 14 local government chairmen.
Dan-Wudil described the development as a “historic political realignment,” noting that it signals the return of the state to the fold of the ruling party.
“This unification marks a progressive step for Zamfara as stakeholders rally under one political platform,” the statement added.
Party faithful and supporters are expected to converge on the venue for what organisers have termed a grand political reception.
