MI Abaga, wife speak on struggles with attention disorder
Jude ‘MI’ Abaga, the Nigerian rapper, has shared the reason behind his decision to marry at the age of 41.
During a recent interview with Jay On Air, the 43-year-old hip-hop star revealed that despite being in previous relationships, he wasn’t emotionally prepared for marriage.
Abaga admitted feeling occasional regret in his late 30s, especially when comparing himself to friends who had married much earlier and already had teenage or grown children.
The award-winning rapper, however, emphasized that he has no lingering regrets, as he eventually met his wife, a woman he described as a “divine blessing.”
“I felt a little bad about being unmarried when I was 37 because my friend who got married at 25, 26 now has 14-year-old kids,” he said.
“I have friends who have kids who are going off to college now, and some of them who didn’t marry had kids early.
“Jesse has a 21-year-old child, and I don’t have any kids of my own yet, so you miss out on some of that.
“No complaints because I got the opportunity to meet this amazing woman who I’m married to now, and I really see some providence in that.”
The rapper also reflected on the importance of personal timing, noting that emotional readiness is crucial for a successful marriage.
“At the end of the day, when you’re not ready, you’re not ready. Everybody’s timeline is different, and this is something that is lost in humanity today,” he added.
“Within my timeline, it just so happened that I had left a relationship around age 39 and met my wife around 40.
“She was there at my 40th birthday, at that point I was ready, so I asked her to marry me, we got married when I was 41.”
The rapper tied the knot with Eniola Mafe in September 2022, months after getting engaged to her.
He revealed he met her in 2020, adding that he knew “straight away” that she was the “one”.
