Man sentenced to two years in jail for severing friend’s hands

Following the verdict of the Bauchi State Chief Magistrate’s Court, Auwal Usman will spend 2 years in jail for severing his friend’s hand and rendering him disabled.

As a first-time offender, the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge against him, appealed for the court’s mercy.

The police prosecutor, Yusuf Musa informed the court that the suspect was involved in a fight with Sabo Aduwa due to a disagreement and it was during the fight that the convict brought out a machete and cut his friend’s hands off. He stated that while one hand fell down, the other one was left hanging.

He also added that the victim was immediately taken to Ningi General hospital, where his dangling hand was amputated to save his life due to the severity of the injuries he sustained.

The convict was ordered to pay N150,000 in medical expenses incurred by the victim, and was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for causing serious harm.

According to the police prosecutor, Usman’s actions was contrary to section 241 of the penal code law.
