Kunle Afolayan, the Nigerian filmmaker, has been named ‘tourism entrepreneur of the year’ at the international tourism investment summit held in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The award was presented at the governor’s dinner and tourism awards night: the closing event of the three-day summit which ran from July 22 to 24 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The summit, tagged #ITSOyoState2025, convened key stakeholders across tourism, hospitality, government and the creative economy to spotlight investment opportunities in Oyo while preserving culture and creating jobs.
Afolayan, who is the founder of KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo, has long championed a model of storytelling that blends heritage, creativity and tourism.
The project is now considered one of Nigeria’s most prominent film and tourism destinations.
Reacting to the award, the KAP management said the recognition affirms their vision to promote African stories and culture through film and hospitality.
“We’re truly grateful for this recognition. It’s not just about one man’s dream. It’s about a team that continues to work with passion to build something lasting,” the KAP team said.
They also expressed gratitude to governor Seyi Makinde; deputy governor Bayo Lawal; Akinwale Akinwole, chairman of the Oyo state local government service commission; Tola Akerele, CEO of the national theatre; and the ministry of art, culture and creative economy for their continued support.
“This award is not the end. It’s fuel to keep going, to keep dreaming, and to keep building something that makes Nigeria proud,” they added.
