A magistrate court in Kano has ordered TikTok stars Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda to formalise their relationship through marriage within 60 days.

The ruling follows the duo’s arrest by officials of the Kano State Censorship Board after videos of them engaging in what the board described as “immoral and demeaning acts” went viral on social media.

The board argued that the clips, which showed Wushirya shirtless and displaying affectionate behaviour toward Yar Guda, a dwarf woman, violated state laws prohibiting the production or circulation of obscene and sexually suggestive content.

Following his arrest, Wushirya was arraigned in court and remanded in a correctional centre.

In her ruling on Monday, Halima Wali, the presiding judge, directed the Hisbah board to oversee the marriage process between the two content creators.

Wali warned that failure to conduct the marriage within 60 days would amount to contempt of court.

She added that the chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board must supervise the order’s implementation.

The Kano state government has in recent months intensified its crackdown on social media content creators accused of promoting immorality or breaching censorship regulations.

Several TikTokers, skit makers, and musicians have been arrested or sanctioned for producing or sharing content deemed offensive.
