John Momoh, chairman and chief executive officer of Channels Media Group, has been named lead speaker for the 2026 Rotary International District 9112 Team Learning Seminar scheduled for February 20–21 at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
Layi Abdoye, district governor-elect of Rotary International District 9112, announced the event and said the seminar is a mandatory leadership programme for district officers ahead of the 2026–2027 Rotary year.
Abdoye said the District Team Learning Seminar remains a cornerstone of Rotary’s leadership development, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to capacity building, knowledge sharing, and service excellence.
Momoh will address over 200 Rotary leaders on the theme: ‘How the media can influence purposeful and ethical leadership’.
The organisers said Momoh’s selection highlights the intersection of ethical leadership, media responsibility, and community service in line with Rotary’s principle of ‘Service Above Self’.
Momoh, a Paul Harris Fellow, has spent nearly five decades in broadcast journalism, working as news anchor, senior reporter, and media executive before co-founding Channels Television with his wife, Sola, in 1995.
Under his leadership, Channels Television has grown into Nigeria’s most trusted independent news network and has won the Best TV Station of the Year award 16 times.
The station has also received multiple honours from the Association for International Broadcasting and became the first Nigerian television station nominated for the International Emmy Awards for its International Children’s Day of Broadcasting entry.
In 2005, Momoh was awarded the national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger and national productivity order of merit.
He later received lifetime achievement awards from the Nigerian Information Society and the University of Lagos Alumni Association.
Momoh is the first private sector broadcaster elected chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) and currently serves as president of the Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria.
He has also received the Planet Africa Leadership Award in Canada, the African Achievers Award, and the Constituency for Africa Award.
The organisers said Momoh’s participation is expected to offer insights on leadership, mentorship, ethical decision-making, institutional trust, and the role of communication in sustaining social impact.
Rotary District 9112, which covers parts of Lagos and Ogun states, said it will continue to strengthen leadership culture through structured learning, inter-district collaboration, and community-driven service initiatives.
