‘It was disrespectful’ – Lilian Afegbai apologises for outburst over AMVCA snub

Lilian Afegbai, Nollywood actress, has publicly apologised after calling out the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) over her nomination snub.

On March 31, following the release of the 2026 AMVCA nominee list, the actress lashed out at the award organisers in protest of her exclusion.

Afegbai added that she should have been nominated for her performance in the movie ‘To Kill A Monkey,’ in which she played Idia.

She then told the organisers to “eat their award”.

However, in a statement on Saturday, the actress admitted that her earlier outburst was wrong.

She explained that her reaction stemmed from pain.

“That tweet should not have happened. No excuse. It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill A Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me.”

“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded.” She shared that she had felt invisible for a long time, and her role in To Kill A Monkey felt like a big moment in her career.

“When I wasn’t nominated, I reacted from a place of hurt, entitlement. I was wrong, and I am sorry”.
