Angelina Jolie has shared her concerns about the state of free speech and the political climate in America.

In an interview with The Guardian, when asked what she feared most as both an actor and an American, Jolie expressed a profound sense of alienation.

Jolie attributed her perspective to her international upbringing and connections.

“It is a very difficult question. I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country. I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life. My worldview is equal, united and international,” she said.

“Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous. These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”

Her comments come a few days after Jimmy Kimmel’ ABC show was indefinitely suspended amid controversy over his recent comments about reaction to Charlie Kirk’s death.

A number of celebrities such as Olivia Rodrigo, Mark Ruffalo, Pedro Pasacal and Tatiana Malasny have also spoken up against Kimmel’s suspension.

There have also been high-profile instances of late-night shows and public figures facing suspension or backlash often after they made controversial remark.

Jolie is one of Hollywood’s leading actresses. She won an Academy Award for ‘Girl, Interrupted’ (1999) and rose to global fame with films like ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’.
