Busola Oke, the singer better known as Eleyele, has detailed her current struggles with finances, loneliness, and the challenges of sustaining a music career in Nigeria.
In a now-trending video, the artiste behind the 2004 hit ‘Eleyele’ was seen engaging with fans while tearfully lamenting her circumstances.
She expressed frustration over the lack of paid performance opportunities, revealing that critical acclaim does not translate into financial stability.
The singer also opened up about the toll her situation has taken on her mental health, describing feelings of isolation.
“Gift cannot do you anything in this Nigeria. No (sobs). To my fans, I am so sorry. I am sorry. I never planned to do this. But I cannot take this anymore. I am done. Good music does not sell anymore,” she lamented.
In a series of rhetorical questions, she painted a picture of profound distress.
“How can you eat when there is no food? How can you drive when there is no car? How can you be at peace when there is no peace? How can you fee not alone, when you are alone?” Busola asked.
The singer is also known for hit songs such as ‘Ogo Tuntun,’ ‘Asoro Ma Tase,’ ‘Alanu’ and ‘Adaba’.
Prior to ‘Eleyele’ release, she had relocated to the United Kingdom. She eventually returned to Nigeria in 2016.
In a 2017 interview, Busola reflected on the unexpected success of her signature track, revealing she had no idea it would become a hit because the rehearsal had been produced.
During that time, she also dismissed rumors of a crisis in her marriage.
