How Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral unfolded at Westminster Abbey.

The State funeral for Queen Elizabeth II took place on Monday, September 19th, to an audience of millions. Hundreds of dignitaries attended including the Queen’s former Prime Minister, as well as US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron. A private committal service will follow at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II is being carried out of Westminster Hall, to be placed on the gun carriage.

Her Majesty’s coffin will now be taken in procession from the palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey. With members of the Royal family walking behind the Queen’s coffin as the procession sets off.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has praised Queen Elizabeth II’s life of duty and service to the UK and Commonwealth at the state funeral for Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, told those gathered: “‘We will meet again”

He said: “The grief of this day – felt not only by the late Queen’s family but all round the nation, Commonwealth and world – arises from her abundant life and loving service, now gone from us”

The Queen’s coffin will now be taken in procession, led by the King and his family, from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch.

Her Majesty will be laid to rest in Windsor’s St George’s Chapel after the service at Westminster Abbey and processions through the streets of central London and Windsor after the funeral.
