Hilda Baci, the celebrity chef, has completed her attempt to cook the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice in a bid to set a new world record.

The chef kicked off cooking the jollof rice shortly after 3 pm on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

The attempt was carried out in a custom-built pot measuring six meters wide, which took a 300-member culinary team two months to make.

For the record, Baci used a recipe including 4,000kg of rice (200 bags), 500 cartons of tomato paste, and 600kg of onions while more than 2,000 people were present to cheer and taste the record-breaking jollof.

The crowd included celebrities, dignitaries and royals. Spyro, Funke Akindele, Enioluwa, Peller, dancer Kaffy, and media personality Tomike Adeoye were among the familiar faces.

They were joined by Ogun State first lady Bamidele Abiodun, Oba Oniru’s wife, Folagade ‘Mama Deola’ Banks, and Alex Unusual.

Many lent their hands to the effort, stirring the massive pot or pouring ingredients in solidarity with the chef.

By 2am, the much-anticipated Jollof was ready. Takeaway packs were handed out, ensuring that everyone present got a taste of the record-breaking meal.

However, there was a brief setback when the giant pot broke during the weighing process, but the measurement was eventually managed to be taken.

Her achievement is now subject to verification and confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR).

Baci had earlier described the attempt as a vibrant festival of Nigerian culture, music, and community spirit.

The chef first gained fame in May 2023. She set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

However, Irish chef Alan Fisher later surpassed her record in November of the same year.
