The Paramount Ruler of Bangha Kingdom in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Suanu Baridam, has narrowly escaped death after gunmen opened fire on his convoy.
The first-class traditional ruler was attacked while returning from an engagement in the Okwale community, within Khana, on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. along the Tekar Sogho Road, linking the area to the East–West Road.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants ambushed the monarch’s vehicle between Taabaa Junction and Sogho, attempting to force it to stop.
When the driver refused to halt, the gunmen reportedly opened fire on the vehicle.
The monarch sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, while his driver was also wounded during the attack.
Both were rushed to the hospital for medical attention, with the traditional ruler currently receiving treatment.
