Social media reactions have trailed the return of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Recently, the official account of the EFCC disappeared on X.

The landing page of the account, which had over two million followers, read: ‘The term you entered did not bring up any results. Please try again later”.

Reacting to the development, Dele Oyewale, spokesperson of the EFCC, said the account was not hacked while claiming that it experienced downtime due to upgrades.

“You know when there is an upgrade in a system, it may be temporarily down and inaccessible. We are doing the upgrade to serve the public better. You can see that other social media pages of the commission are still functional,” Oyewale

On Thursday, the anti-graft agency returned to X after a 21-day hiatus on the microblogging platform.

EFCC posted a cartoon image showing an eagle dragging a net filled with people with the caption “There are some birds you can not keep down”.

Some X users who commented on the post taunted the anti-graft agency for its inability to arrest Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi state.
