D’banj, the Nigerian singer, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between Psquare and Jude Okoye, their elder brother.

Psquare, once one of Nigeria’s biggest music acts, comprised twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye before the 2017 breakup.

Recently, Jude Okoye, his elder brother, and his company were tried for alleged money laundering involving over N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,000.

Peter appeared as the first prosecution witness in the trial, and since then, there has been an ongoing feud between the brothers.

In an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast, the ‘Oliver Twist’ singer revealed he recently spoke with Peter Okoye and believes there’s still hope for reconciliation between the Psquare brothers, stressing the need for honest dialogue.

He said their music catalogue holds immense value and could serve as a foundation to resolve any financial disagreements, even if they choose not to reunite as a group.

The singer stressed the need for proper intervention to preserve the legacy they built together.

“For the legend they have built together, I feel there can be a proper intervention. I know they have tried to because I flew with Peter Okoye on my way here,” he said.

“We spoke and he shared some things with me, and all I can say is that I’m so sure there is still a chance for reconciliation. They just have to have a conversation.

“If it’s an even money issue, there’s no better time because you guys own your catalogue. Some global music executives have been trying to buy my catalogue for over a decade, but I kept it because I know how big it can get when it is my time for it.

“Same with P-Square’s catalogue. It’s enormous, so they can always agree. They don’t have to be a group anymore, but they can agree to reserve their issues. If it is a money problem, let us have the agreement.”

He further urged relevant institutions like the Bank of Industry, as well as the federal government, to help structure a resolution if the rift stems from financial or contractual issues.

“I would like to beg anyone who is a mentor to them because this is beyond us, their colleagues,” he added.

“I think it has to be someone that they would respect, if possible, the nation. I know that there are cases here and there, but they can still be resolved.

“I remember when a bank closed in Nigeria and locked up Jay Jay Okocha’s money. The then President, Obasanjo, personally intervened and told them to pay Jay Jay because of how much he had done for the country.

“So, I believe something like that can happen in this case, where if it’s about money or agreement, relevant institutions like the Bank of Industry can help structure that for them.”

Recently, Peter severed the ties with his siblings.
