Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has been named ‘Governor of the Year’ at the 10th Annual Face of Africa Leadership Awards by Triangle Media International Magazine in London, United Kingdom.
The ceremony, held at the Grand Hall of King’s College, recognised public and private sector leaders whose efforts have significantly impacted governance and service delivery.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the award celebrates the achievements of the Zamfara state government under Lawal’s leadership since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
The statement highlighted that the award reflects Lawal’s efforts in revitalising the state despite inheriting an empty treasury, staying true to his administration’s “Rescue and Rebuild” agenda.
Key achievements cited include: Declaring a state of emergency in the education sector to curb insecurity indirectly, payment of N3.4 billion in outstanding WAEC and NECO fees, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across all 14 local government areas of Zamfara State.
“The International magazine finds these initiatives to be strategic interventions toward long-term efforts to make Zamfara State better,” the statement read.
The 10th edition of the awards, themed “Harnessing the Roles of Nigerians in Diaspora for National Development”, brought together stakeholders from both public and private sectors.
Among attendees were the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Sahara Group GMD, Kola Adesina.
