The CCETC, a Chinese power generation company, has expressed readiness to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun state.

According to a statement, Guo Xianda, chairman of the company, spoke during a meeting with Dapo Abiodun, Ogun governor, in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Xianda said the firm plans to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport free of charge, to accelerate economic activities within the area.

“The investment pledge comes on the heels of the recent visit of Governor Dapo Abiodun to China, in continuation of his investment drive across the globe,” the statement said.

“The governor, who led a powerful economic team from Ogun state to China, had engaged numerous investors on partnerships and collaborations in different areas of investments, raging from tech, energy and manufacturing, among others.”

Xianda said the CCETC, based in Jiangsu, China, already has a substantial investment footprint in Nigeria and other African countries, with over 250MW of power projects operating in Nigeria.

He said the company is seeking to expand its operations on the continent, with a total generation capacity of over 5,000MW for distribution.

The chairman said the CCETC’s interests in Ogun state include power generation and distribution, investment in a dedicated state transmission network, and the establishment of an industrial park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state.

According to the statement, Abiodun commended the company for introducing strategic investment opportunities to the state.

“The company will strategically focus on three fundamental areas of intervention, namely: strengthening power generation and distribution within the state, investing in the state’s transmission network, and establishing an Industrial Park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state while integrating power projects,” the governor was quoted as saying.

The statement added that the governor is expected to lead the team on an inspection tour of ongoing power distribution and infrastructure projects being undertaken by Sahara and Powergen, as part of ongoing efforts to secure a reliable energy supply across Ogun.
