Nollywood filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved a new feat with her latest film ‘Behind the Scenes’, smashing records by grossing over N1 billion at the box office.

FilmOne, the film’s distribution company, announced the milestone on Monday, declaring the movie the “fastest film in West Africa to cross N1bn plus”.

The project has shattered multiple records, including the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (N129.5 million), the highest-grossing release of 2025 so far, and has cemented Akindele as the only director to cross the N1 billion mark three separate times.

The achievements solidify her unparalleled commercial reign: she is now Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time and the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive billion-naira films within a single calendar year.
Celebrating the feat, Akindele expressed gratitude to her fans, colleagues, and the film’s distributors.

She also revealed the film’s expanding global reach, noting that ‘Behind the Scenes’ is now showing in cinemas across two European countries and the United States.

“Over the years, I’ve always valued my fans, because without God and you, I am nobody,” she wrote.

Thank you all for coming out to watch this movie and for supporting my brand through the years.

“Thank you to the distributors, my colleagues especially those not in the movie who still came out to meet and greet my fans.

“Big love to the cast and crew. This is only the beginning, let’s take BEHIND THE SCENES even further.

“If you haven’t seen it yet, please come watch with your family and friends.”

Akindele’s box office dominion has been a relentless march. In 2023, her film ‘Battle On Buka Street’ became Nollywood’s highest-grossing title with N640 million.

She then shattered the industry’s ceiling in January 2024 when ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ became the first Nollywood movie ever to hit N1 billion at the Nigerian box office.

Later that same year, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ set a new regional record, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa with N1.6 billion.
