Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to weaken the African Democratic Congress (ADC) through the judiciary.

Abubakar made the claim on Thursday night during a visit to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai at his residence, where he urged opposition leaders to remain vigilant against what he described as anti-democratic manoeuvres.

He alleged that there were credible plans to deploy judicial processes to undermine the ADC, similar to what he claimed had been done to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This is a very, very credible information. So we should all be at alert and make sure that the judiciary is not used to undermine the ADC. Just as it has been used to undermine, to destroy the PDP. We must all unite and stand up to all these anti-democratic forces. I thank you very much indeed.”
The visit followed an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where El-Rufai was reportedly approached by security operatives upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.

In a statement posted on X, El-Rufai’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, alleged that security agents attempted to arrest the former governor shortly after he disembarked from his flight. He claimed El-Rufai declined to accompany the operatives in the absence of a formal invitation and that his international passport was taken from an aide.

Reacting to the development, Abubakar condemned what he described as an attempt to embarrass El-Rufai, saying such actions amounted to an affront to the broader political class.

In his response, El-Rufai expressed appreciation for the visit and solidarity shown by the former vice-president. He described the airport episode as unfortunate and unnecessary, adding that it raised serious concerns.
