Arewa youths to FG: Military needs drones, advanced weapons to fight insecurity

The Arewa Youth Assembly has asked the federal government to strengthen Nigeria’s military capacity with advanced weapons to combat rising insecurity across the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, Mohammed Danlami, the group’s spokesperson, said Nigeria is “standing at a precipice” as insecurity surges ahead of the 2027 elections.

Danlami alleged that the spike in violent attacks, including kidnappings, banditry, and arson ahead of the elections, suggests a deliberate attempt to destabilise the country for political gain.

He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s security leadership, noting that recent military operations have led to the rescue of hundreds of kidnapped victims without ransom payments and the dismantling of terrorist enclaves across the country.

“Intelligence sharing between the army, air force, and navy has been restructured, leading to the preemptive destruction of several arms caches and logistics bases belonging to political bandits,” he said.

“We note with satisfaction that the military has remained professional, nonpartisan, and focused.”

He said sustained air and ground offensives have pushed insurgents in the Lake Chad region to the fringes.

Danlami said more needs to be done to consolidate the gains recorded, adding that President Bola Tinubu should increase military funding and provide modern weapons to troops.

“We urge the federal government to give them more weapons, more drones, better logistics, and real-time intelligence platforms. Let them finish the job,” Danlami said.

Danlami advised Nigerians to support the military fight against insurgency by reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
