The Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct bamboo houses across Nigeria to support low and medium-income earners.
This initiative, aimed at addressing the country’s housing challenges, was announced on Wednesday in Abuja by Esuabana Asanye, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, during a Capacity Building Workshop on the Use of Bamboo for Climate-Smart Housing.
Represented by Director of Environmental Science and Technology, Benadette Oguche, Asanye noted that bamboo housing would not only be eco-friendly but also affordable, adaptable, and comfortable for Nigerians.
He described bamboo as a highly versatile material, widely used in various sectors, including construction, medicine, and paper production. Asanye also praised the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) for its role in developing sustainable solutions to tackle the effects of climate change.
