A Lagos court has sentenced a hotel worker, Jeffrey Ehizojie, to death by hanging after he was found guilty of strangling his employer, Olusola Olusoga, and the hotel manager, Tunji Omikunle, to death.

According to Justice Oyindamola Ogala, Ehizojie was found guilty of beating and strangling the Managing Director of Etsahol Hotel and Suites located at Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.

On Tuesday, 11th July 2023, Justice Ogala found the prosecution to have presented enough evidence to prove the case indisputably.

She stated that the prosecution’s case was mainly based on the convict’s confessional statement and circumstantial evidence.

Justice Ogala stated that the court had taken into account the defence statement , which was admitted as evidence, where Ehizojie retracted his confession and stated that one of the hotel staff, Henry, had informed him that the owner of the hotel kept much money at home.

She carefully considered the evidence presented by the defendant, particularly his account of leaving the hotel premises on January 25, 2019, and his implausible explanation for not returning to the hotel after the  incident or reporting to the police station.

The Judge also stated that the convict had no clear explanation for fleeing to Port Harcourt the next day until his arrest. According to the Judge, the circumstantial evidence against the convict was strong, positive, and left no doubt about his guilt.

Justice Ogala carefully examined the evidence presented and found the defendant guilty of both charges. Consequently, the court sentenced Jeffrey Ehizogie to death by hanging.
