The famous Artist, Robert Sylvester Kelly, popularly known as R. Kelly has been found guilty of sex crimes, including producing child sexual abuse imagery and forcing minors into sexual acts.

R. Kelly was convicted of six charges out of 13 charges brought against him. The 12-person jury in the trial convicted Mr Kelly on Wednesday 14th September, 2022.

He was found guilty of forcing three children (minors) into criminal sexual activity and producing three child sexual abuse videos, all of which prosecutors confirmed involved the same 14 year old girl.

Robert Kelly was exonerated from the charge of attempting to obstruct an earlier investigation into his abuse. He was also found not guilty of receiving child sexual abuse imagery and scheming to receive such imagery as part of a scheme to recover missing video tapes.

His two co-defendants, associates Derrel McDavid and Milton Brown, were found not guilty on all the charges. McDavid, Kelly’s business manager, was acquitted of conspiring with Kelly to rig the 2008 trial. Milton Brown, Kelly’s associate, was acquitted of receiving child pornography.

R. Kelly who is 55 years old, had already been sentenced to 30 years in prison back in June 2022 after he was convicted by a jury in Brooklyn for lawlessness and sex trafficking charges.

Based on that sentence, he will not be eligible for release until he is around 80.

The conviction back in June was the first time R. Kelly had been held criminally responsible for allegations related to sexual abuse even though there were accusations dating back more than three decades.

The conviction that took place on 14th September, 2022 could add years to that jail sentence.
