During a livestream session with content creator Carter Efe, the artiste, whose real name is Oludemilade Alejo, revealed that his time away from the music industry was a deliberate choice rooted in personal growth.
“I went to the mountain; I went on a journey of self-discovery,” he said.
He also shed light on the origin of his popular moniker ‘Omo Alhaji,’ noting that it stems from his father’s Muslim faith.
Ycee’s musical journey began in 2012 as an underground rapper, leading to a signing with Tinny Entertainment.
The 33-year-old artiste briefly paused his career to focus on studies at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
He gained popularity after his single ‘Condo,’ which featured vocals by Patoranking, earned him two nominations at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

In January 2019, Ycee parted ways with Tinny Entertainment for undisclosed reasons.
