Residents of several communities in the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State were on Wednesday plunged into darkness following a technical fault on a transmission facility operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company disclosed this in a notice issued on its official Facebook page, attributing the disruption to a fault on the TCN 132kV Apo–Karu Line 1.

According to the power distribution company, the fault affected bulk electricity supply to a number of communities across the FCT and Nasarawa State.

Areas impacted by the outage include Karu, Nyanya, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi, Mararaba, Ado, New Nyanya, New Karu, Uke, Masaka, Auta Balaifi, Keffi, Nasarawa Toto, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and neighbouring communities.

AEDC said efforts were already underway to restore supply, adding that engineers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria had commenced work on the affected facility.

“The technical team of the Transmission Company of Nigeria is currently working to restore power supply around 3:00 pm today, 10th June 2026,” the company stated.

It apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage and appealed for patience as repair works continued.

The latest disruption highlights the persistent challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector, where inadequate generation, transmission constraints and frequent technical faults continue to undermine electricity supply across the country.

AEDC is one of Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies and provides services to the FCT as well as parts of Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states.
