Yusuf Tuggar, former minister of foreign Affairs, has lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Bauchi state.

In the results of the primary election announced on Saturday, Mohammed Abubakar, a former governor of the state, defeated Tuggar and five other aspirants to clinch the ticket.

Announcing the outcome, John Abang, who chaired the APC governorship and house of assembly primary committee in the state, said Abubakar secured 57,517 votes to clinch the ticket.

Tuggar finished second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes. Bala Wunti recorded 13,648 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji scored 8,157 votes.

Abang said the results were compiled after the exercise across the state and declared Abubakar the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 election.

On March 30, Tuggar resigned from his position following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, which mandated all political appointees seeking to contest elective positions in 2027.
